Marija Kapitanović
Ambassador of the
Republic of Croatia to Romania
H.E. Marija Kapitanović has been a part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European
Integration since 2002 and has held key positions within the institution. She has extensive
working experience in external relations and EU affairs. Ambassador Kapitanović started her
career in the Directorate General for the translation of the EU law in Croatian. She also
worked in the Directorate General for the Co-ordination of EU Assistance and Co-operation
Programmes and she held position of Chief of staff of the Office of the State Secretary for
European Integration. Regarding external relations field she served as Deputy Head of the
Mission at the Croatian Embassy in Italy, she was Ambassador of Republic of Croatia to
Kosovo and she has been Ambassador of Republic of Croatia to Romania.
She served as a Western Balkan Director and has extensive knowledge and experience on
Western Balkan region as well as relations with the countries of Croatia’s neighbourhood.
In terms of education, she holds a BA in Italian Language and Comparative Literature from
the Faculty of Arts and Letters in Zagreb and a MA in European Integration and Regionalism
from Karl-Franzens University in Austria.
Anna Akhalkatsi

The World Bank
Anna Akhalkatsi is the World Bank Country Manager for Romania and Hungary as of July 1, 2021. She
oversees the World Bank’s program and leads policy dialogue with government counterparts, private
sector, civil society and other relevant constituencies in the two countries.
A Georgian national, Ms. Akhalkatsi first joined the World Bank in 1999 as an economist in Tbilisi,
Georgia. She then became the country representative for the International Finance Corporation (IFC) in
Georgia before moving to Washington D.C., where she worked on strategy, small business finance and
firm capability, value chains and agribusiness issues. Subsequently, Ms. Akhalkatsi acted as Regional
Lead for IFC’s Cross-Cutting Advisory Solutions in the region of Latin America and Caribbean. Prior to
taking up her new post in Romania she was the World Bank Country Manager for Moldova.

Kalypso Goula is Secretary General for Demography and Family Policy and Gender Equality, in the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs and a lawyer at the Supreme Court (Areios Pagos).
In 1988 she graduated from Law School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where she completed postgraduate studies in Commercial and Economic Law.
From 2008 to 2011 she was a member of the Board of Directors of the Thessaloniki Bar Association.
In 2010 she was elected municipal counselor in the Municipality of Thessaloniki and was re-elected in 2014.
From January 2011 to January 2013, she was Vice Mayor of Social Solidarity and Citizen Protection and from February 2013 to March 2017 Vice Mayor of Social Policy and Solidarity.
As Vice Mayor of Social Policy, she contributed to the creation for the first time of model support structures for vulnerable groups that had been affected by the financial crisis, as well as to the establishment of the Hostel for Abused Women and their Children in Thessaloniki, which began operating in 2013.
In March 2017, she was elected President of the Municipal Council and became the first female president in the history of the Municipality of Thessaloniki, a position she held until January 2019.
In May 2019, she was a candidate in the European elections with “Nea Dimokratia”
She was born in Thessaloniki and speaks English and French.
